Public

Playing and living in London (UK) and then on NYC's lower east side has, for Chris Stopa, put a few musical things into perspective. While certain ideas still ring true - that if you're good at what you do and dedicated to doing it well, things will work out - other things are more complicated. One of those things was NYC. While the frenetic energy and shear density of NY means musicians can tap into a massive creative buzz, the endless and fleeting opportunities can almost become a distraction. A great melting pot it may be, but when you're trying to define the edges of something meaningful and long term, all that melting doesn't help. So add a few years in London and a whirlwind in NY to an overdue trip to Toronto and you will find the band Public.

Young, excited, energetic and with the US and the UK in their background, this group of 5 stumbled together in Toronto, the result of some inspiring jams, late nights, lots of music and... heart. A gang with two guitars, bass, drums and vocals, Chas, Kevin, Ian, Mike and Chris have been writing recording and playing together ever since. Getting on the same page, inspiring, surprising, working and enjoying PUBLIC. Attracting the praise of Violent Femmes front man Gordon Gano, and Bruce Findlay, 17 year manager of Simple Minds, they are hitting their stride as they start to make dents in the musical landscape. Playing countless shows in and around Toronto the crowd has grown and the word has spread and sometime soon NY and London may get another surprise visit.

For now with a significant cult following and numerous songs to prove why, Public can take a little look back before they leap; "Be slow, and I know that's counter to what everyone wants to do, but that is where the honesty is .....when people are prepared to take it slow. Things are starting to move along for us but everyone in PUBLIC is still here and still true and still interested regardless, and that's what's cool....that's music"
